Officers from Armenia’s law enforcement agencies have entered Armat Media’s editorial office, we have learned.

“What is happening at the moment in the Armat Media editorial office is simply unacceptable, this is a campaign against free speech,” editor Nelli Avetisyan wrote on Facebook.

Any other details are not yet known.

A series of arrests has begun in Armenia since early Friday morning.

So far, former ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) deputy chairman, former Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan, former Rector of Brusov State University Gayane Gasparyan, Vice-Rector Artur Ayvazyan, chairman of the university’s governing board Vigen Sargsyan, Armenia’s former Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan, his son Artyom Khachatryan, as well as another person associated with them, Harutyun Tadevosyan, have been arrested. They are accused under the case on abuse of official power and money laundering over property worth about 200 million.

Also, an MP candidate from the "Armenia" bloc is arrested on suspicion of giving an election bribe.

And the Anti-Corruption Committee reported that the former head of the State Property Management Department, a member of the RPA, Arman Sahakyan, has been detained for two months. He has been charged as part of a criminal case initiated on giving or receiving an election bribe.

In addition, former mayor of Yerevan and Armenia’s former Minister of Transport and Communication Gagik Beglaryan was arrested. He is accused of abuse of official power and laundering large amounts of money. A petition for his detention has been submitted to the court.
