Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko declared Tuesday, July 7, a day of mourning for those killed as a result of the Russian strike on the city on the night leading into Monday. In his statement, he called the new attack the largest-scale one for Kyiv.

At this point, 11 people are known to have been killed in the strike involving ballistic missiles and drones on multi-story residential buildings in Kyiv, and about 50 people were injured. Among the injured are five children, the head of the city military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported earlier.

At two locations, in the Podilskyi and Darnytskyi districts, where missiles hit a nine-story and a 25-story building, search and rescue operations are ongoing, Klitschko said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the nighttime attack on Kyiv, describing it as a strike on military-industrial enterprises and fuel and energy infrastructure facilities. Russian military officials characterized the previous massive strike on Kyiv on July 2 in a similar way, when 31 people were killed.
