European officials have intensified discussions about ways to reduce their reliance on the US and American defense contractors following the recent blame game around Ukraine’s Starlink satellite system restrictions, according to people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reports.

According to its data, at the European Union (EU) summit held on October 15 and 16, participants discussed the disruptions in the work of the Starlink system and another public dispute between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump.

European officials have considered options for expanding their own capabilities and diversifying suppliers of key technologies.

But the implementation of such programs will take several years, Bloomberg’s source noted. As a more accessible solution, Bloomberg points to increasing the European countries’ engagement in existing organizations, including NATO.
