Passengers on a Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen are preparing to file a lawsuit worth tens of millions of euros after an incident on July 10 when broken engine fragments damaged the plane's fuselage and smashed a cabin window, Bild reports.

The head and right shoulder of one of the passengers, Serbian national Ljubisa Karovic, 61, were sucked out of the plane's window at an altitude of about 4.5 kilometers, and he suffered serious injuries.

Greek attorney Vassilios Tsiaras is now representing him and 35 others of the flight's 149 passengers.

According to the preliminary conclusions of the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), one of the fan blades broke in the Boeing 737-800 engine, and its fragments damaged the aircraft.

Bird remains were also found in the engine, but the passenger's lawyer doubts that only a collision with birds could have led to such consequences.

Ryanair said that it will comment on the causes of the incident after the investigation is completed.

It has not yet been decided who exactly the lawsuit will be filed against—Ryanair, Boeing, the engine manufacturer, service companies, or several companies at once.

According to Bild, the total amount of this lawsuit could amount to several tens of millions of euros.

There is no doubt that if this man had not been wearing a seat belt, he would have been thrown out the window and would not have survived, the lawyer said.
