Alpine has presented the first concept of the design of the next generation of its A110 sports car, which will debut in 2027. It will become the first fully electric version of this legendary sports car of the French automobile brand, Autocar reports.

Instead of a finished car, Alpine has shown a life-size sculpture, which will be presented to the public at the Paris motor show next month. It is made in the form of a unique cover, reminiscent of the protective covers with which automakers hide new models until the official launch.

At the same time, the sculpture quite accurately conveys the main lines of the future A110. The car will retain the low and flowing silhouette characteristic of Alpine. Judging by the presented sample, it will retain the trademark V-shaped design of the front end, but will have hexagonal headlights and more expressive sculptural elements on the sides of the body.

Alpine design chief Antony Villain said the sculpture hinted at how the new A110 took inspiration from nature and the wind, and also from the supersonic Concorde jet, which was co-developed by the British and the French.

“For the third-generation A110, we wanted something that was more dramatic, so we played with Concorde at the moment when it goes supersonic, and used this as an inspiration to create an echo shape that we interpreted on the body sides,” says Villain.

The life-size sculpture also shows that the new A110 will have approximately the same height as the current generation. This is especially important for an electric sports car, since designers need to accommodate a heavy battery without turning the car into a tall and massive electric vehicle.

The new A110 will be built on the Alpine Performance Platform (APP). Unlike the common layout where the battery pack is located almost entirely under the floor, the APP enables the batteries to be placed both in the front and in the rear; this enables for a low body height and sporty proportions.

A test mule for the new A110 has made a public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, albeit packaged in the previous car's bodywork. The production version of this electric sports car is scheduled to be unveiled in 2027.
