A total of 15 million pieces of malicious software, or “malware”, were registered last year, almost as many as the previous year, news.ru reported, referring to Kaspersky lab, which published the data at a press conference.

Alexander Gostev, Director of Kaspersky Lab’s Global Research and Analysis Team, reported that such malicious software as global epidemics, Kido, web attacks, botnets, SMS frauds constituted major threats last year.

China remains a leading “malware” supplier, followed by the U.S., Russia, Germany and Holland. Last year much more sophisticated “malware” was produced, the expert said.

Kaspersky Lad forecasts the production of much more sophisticated “malware” next year. Among the expected problems are more attacks through torrents.

The weak points of software, including the recently produced Windows 7, will cause epidemics.
