YEREVAN. – Infrastructure at Gyumri-Kars section of the railway is absolutely ready,  SCR General Director Victor Rebets told reporters.

Speaking about possible resumption of railway communication from Gyumri to Kars, he recalled that the operation of a railway was disrupted in 1993 at the initiative of Turkish side.

Several years ago South Caucasus Railway carried out activities to restore a part of the infrastructure leading to the border station.

“At the first stage, we could have an opportunity to restore operation of the section through the organization of Akhuryan, an international logistics center,” he said.

Rebets  noted that approximately a year ago he met with business representatives from Turkey within the framework of event organized by the Union of  Entrepreneurs. They doubted his words about the logistic center,  and asked to show them everything.

“The Turkish side seemed to be disappointed hoping to see that I was wrong,” SCR Director General said, adding that political moves are needed to restore communication.
