YEREVAN. – The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) will do everything not to allow an electricity price increase, non-pro-government PAP MP Mikayel Melkumyan stated at a briefing on Friday.

According to Melkumyan, this price hike will become a very severe blow for Armenia’s residents, since the prices of other products likewise will increase as a chain reaction.

“The electricity price increase is a very sensitive issue for thousands of people. If such a decision is made, a noticeable increase in poverty can be expected,” the PAP deputy added.

As of August 1, the electricity price in Armenia is expected to increase by 10 percent and make up   41.85 drams (approx. US 10.1 cents), per cubic meter, for most residents.
