YEREVAN. – Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan on Saturday convened, at the Government building, a consultation devoted to the Law on Funded Pensions. 

Representatives from the National Assembly’s ruling Republican, non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia, and opposition Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law) and ARF Dashnaktsutyun factions attended the meeting. 

The parties conferred on the proposed amendments to the aforesaid law, and which will be aimed at the implementation of the April 2 decision by the Constitutional Court.    

During the exchange of views, the MPs expressed their position on these amendments and offered proposals.  

PM Abrahamyan, for his part, expressed willingness to continue such discussions in order to comprehensively solve the problems in the pension system and implement the pension reforms.

In May, the National Assembly passed the amendments to the Law on Funded Pensions. Accordingly, the mandatory funded pension deductions from salaries are temporarily suspended. And pursuant to the Constitutional Court’s April 2 decision, the final version of the pension plan must be prepared by no later than September 30. The government, however, plans to carry this out earlier, and by increasing the state salaries by July 1.
