YEREVAN. – The European Union will promote Armenia to a level where cooperation may continue, Lithuania's Ambassador Erikas Petrikas said during a press conference on Monday.

The Vilnius declaration practically opened the way to further cooperation between Armenia and EU.

“EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian exchanged letters, what Armenia has achieved for 3.5 years of talks with EU was confirmed,” he said.

The Ambassador is confident that cooperation with the Eastern countries, including Armenia, is a first priority for EU and Lithuania.

Now the EU, he said, is willing to know exactly cooperation in which areas will not interfere with Armenia's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union.

“Sectoral cooperation with Armenia remains very important for us,” he concluded.

Armenia and EU adopted a joint statement during the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius last November.
