TBILISI. – President Serzh Sargsyan said Armenia stands for restoration of a direct rail link between Georgia and Russia via Abkhazia, Rustavi 2 reported.
“There are no serious discussions on the issue, but we want this road to start functioning. For us, it is of vital importance,” Sargsyan said during his official visit to Georgia.
He added that the opening of the railway depends not only on Armenia and Russia, but on the other sides, “so we are actively working on this issue”.
Earlier, State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality of Georgia Paata Zakareishvili said that the opening of the raill link through Abkhazia is not at the stage of detailed discussions yet, although in foreseeable future, it may be subject to consideration of Georgian and Russian officials.
