The United States and its European allies are finalizing a package of sanctions on Russia’s key economic sectors that could be levied as early as this week, the Associated Press reported citing the US presidential administration.

It is noted that these sanctions include Russia’s energy industry, as well as Moscow’s access to world financial markets.

But the option of imposing sanctions on Russia’s key economic sectors may affect the interests of the American companies that are operating in the Russian market, Gazeta.ru reported.

It is clarified, however, that the penalties might be delayed because of positive signals from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
