YEREVAN. – No document on Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) accession will be signed on July 3, and it will not be signed at all.  

Political scientist, ex-presidential candidate Andreas Ghukasyan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Wednesday. 

In his view, the myth, according to which Russia has exerted pressure on Armenia to join the EaEU, is extremely exaggerated.

“This was a decision by [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan and the ruling elite. When it became known that the donors’ conference will not take place, the meaning of the EU Association was lost, and [therefore] new sponsors had to be found,” Ghukasyan said.  

In response to Armenian News-NEWS.am’s query as to why the aforesaid document will not be signed, the political scientist specifically noted: “We see that Belarus and Kazakhstan very actively speak against Armenia’s membership in this organization. If we take out the word ‘Eurasian,’ [it will turn out that] the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan economic union is founded to protect the old, post-Soviet industry; [but] Armenia has no such industry.”        

“Neither economic nor political, nor any other factor has ever existed for Armenia’s EaEU membership,” Andreas Ghukasyan added.
