US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Federation (RF) Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a telephonic conversation, during which they expressed a deep concern over the radical Islamists’ more active actions in Iraq. 

During the phone conversation, Kerry briefed Lavrov on his recent visit to Iraq, the RF MFA informed.    

“It was decided to continue the substantive consultations, which are aimed at stabilizing the situation,” the RF MFA statement specifically reads.  

The US secretary of state noted that the operations by the Sunni Muslim militants threaten the very existence of Iraq, and that the coming days and weeks are going to be very significant for the future of Iraq.
