YEREVAN. – A criminal case was instituted on the fact, not against him. And this does not mean that he is an accused. 

Armenian capital city Yerevan Chief of Police Ashot Karapetyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am, and in connection with the criminal case that is launched against Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Valeri Osipyan.

As per Karapetyan, Osipyan is not an accused, and there are no grounds for his dismissal, or suspension of service.  

“Osipyan continues to work, he serves the Armenia Police. Any police officer must work until charges are laid [against him]. Opening a criminal case on the fact doesn’t mean that he is an accused,” Ashot Karapetyan stated.  

As reported earlier, the Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia has opened a criminal case against Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Valeri Osipyan, SIS Press Secretary Mikayel Aharonyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.     

According to him, the criminal case was instituted on the basis of media reports.

On the night of June 1, Valeri Osipyan’s nephew had stabbed Vanush Aleksanyan, 22. Subsequently, there were media reports stating that the Yerevan deputy police chief had met with the mother of one of the persons involved in the aforesaid incident, and attempted to reach an agreement with her so as to lay all the blame for the stabbing on the woman’s son.
