YEREVAN. – Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan is not of the view that the situation on the border with Azerbaijan has aggravated so much that it is necessary to ask for the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s (CSTO) assistance. Ohanyan himself stated the aforementioned to reporters on Tuesday.

“The Armenian army is becoming more combat-ready on a daily basis and it is able to fulfill the tasks on its own,” the minister stressed.

He recalled that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the only one in the world where the ceasefire is maintained without external intervention.

“When we speak about balance, it is not about quantity, but rather quality and the fighting spirit of our soldiers. 
“[But] that the CSTO should be informed about the [ceasefire] violations and make a corresponding statement is another issue. 

“The Armenian party is never the initiator of the violation; we solely respond to the encroachments [upon the border],” Seyran Ohanyan noted.
