YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s invitation to the Turkish president to visit Armenia on April 24, 2015 is a fair and correct appeal.

Turkish publisher and human rights defender and Ragip Zarakolu on Wednesday said the aforementioned at a press conference in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.

In his words, although Turkey PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s “condolences” to the descendants of the Armenian Genocide victims are disgraceful to Turkey, finally something was done in the country.  

Zarakolu stressed that the Armenians who were massacred nearly 100 years ago likewise were Ottoman Empire citizens and they, too, had rights.

Commenting on Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu’s recent article on the need to build a “just memory” regarding the events that occurred in 1915 in Ottoman Turkey, the human rights advocate specifically stated: “Davutoglu’s scale does not weigh accurately. If we look at what happened in 1915, we must admit that two million Armenians in Western Armenia no longer live there. Had the genocide not taken place, Western Armenia would have had a population of about 10 million.”      

Ragip Zarakolu added that this problem is too serious to be left to historians.
