YEREVAN. – For the first six months of 2014, over 25-percent increase in the number of passengers and flights has been observed at Armenian capital city Yerevan’s “Zvartnots” International Airport.

This is a result of the “open sky” policy adopted by the Armenian Government, the “Armenia” International Airports CJSC—which operates the Zvartnots airport—issued a respective statement.

“As compared to June 2013, a 43-percent increase in passenger flow was observed at the airport in the first six months of 2014. In June 2014, the Airport served 208,408 passengers against 145,339 of past June.

“The number of flights in the same period rose by 42 percent. Instead of the 1,405 flights in past June, 1,995 flights were conducted in June 2014.

“If 27 airlines operated regular flights to Zvartnots in June 2013, now their number is 33. Also, most of the airlines increased the frequencies to all destinations, which resulted in the reduction of airplane ticket prices.

“Starting from Thursday, Etihad Airways will operate flights to and from Zvartnots  four times a week,” the “Armenia” International Airports CJSC statement also reads.
