YEREVAN. – Armenia Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan on Friday met with Turkish intellectual, publisher, and human rights activist Ragip Zarakolu, who fights for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. 

Zarakolu has arrived in Armenia to attend the launch of the one-volume Turkish version of the three-volume book, titled Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey: Testimonies of Survivors, which is based on archival documents, the Diaspora Ministry press service informed.

Hakobyan highly appreciated the Turkish intellectual’s contribution to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and she stressed Zarakolu’s great role in the documentation and publishing of the genocide witnesses’ accounts.  

Ragip Zarakolu, for his part, considered his fight for recognition of the Armenian Genocide and restoration of justice to be a fight for honor. He informed that he will publish two more books; one on the Kurds’ witness accounts, and another on the accounts by women who were converted to Islam.  

The Turkish intellectual also informed that he has resumed his Armenian-language learning course. 

Hranush Hakobyan and Ragip Zarakolu discussed the Armenian Genocide’s international recognition and condemnation, elimination of its consequences, and the events to be organized ahead of the centennial of the genocide.
