YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who is in Argentina on an official visit, on Monday met with Mauricio Macri, the Head of Government (Mayor) of the City of Buenos Aires.

The interlocutors underscored decentralized cooperation, informed the Press Office of the President. In addition, Sargsyan highlighted Macri’s visit to Armenian capital city Yerevan in 2012, and stressed that Armenia stands ready to assist in the new initiatives between the two capital cities.   

The President also reflected on the Armenian presence in Buenos Aires and stated that the Armenians who have settled in Argentina have received a warm reception in this country.

In addition, Sargsyan expressed his deep gratitude to the Buenos Aires municipal authorities for officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide and for their decision to found a Genocide Museum in the Argentine capital city.   

Furthermore, the Armenian President congratulated the people of Argentina on the country’s Independence Day anniversary, which will be celebrated on Wednesday.  

At the end of the meting, Mauricio Macri handed to President Sargsyan the key to Buenos Aires and the Honorary Certificate of the City Visitor. And Sargsyan signed the Buenos Aires City Hall guest book.

President Serzh Sargsyan also met with President Julián Andrés Domínguez of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies.

In the President’s words, Armenia attaches a particular importance to interparliamentary cooperation. Sargsyan noted that the Argentine Senate’s and House of Representatives’ passing of the bill on Armenian Genocide recognition has opened a new chapter in Armenian-Argentinean friendship.  

Sargsyan and Domínguez underscored the reciprocal visits of parliamentary delegations and the contacts between the interparliamentary friendship groups of Armenia and Argentina.
