YEREVAN. – Adoption of a political statement outlining the principles which will be guided during settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, will certainly contribute to the normalization of environment, Russian FM Sergey Lavrov said.
“At the end of this week separate meetings of our leader with President of Armenia and President of Azerbaijan, will take place in Sochi. And when they will be in one place at one time, perhaps, we can not do without talking about the Nagorno-Karabakhl, But how this will be arranged depends on us,” Lavrov said in an interview with ITAR-TASS.
The Russian minister said they would talk with partners from Azerbaijan and Armenia on how they can help on their side, and the side of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, to help build confidence and reduce the risk of confrontation.
Speaking about possible adoption of a political statement, he said it would not be an easy thing.
“There were numerous attempts in this regard, and each time it seemed that we reached the important milestone, when there is an agreement, but something interfered. So I will not make predictions,” Russian FM said.
He also drew attention to the need to intensively and persistently continue to help Armenians and Azerbaijanis to seek “wordings that will be comfortable for both parties”.
