Reliance Communications company of India and Canada-based DataWind company plan to launch the world’s most affordable smartphone by the end of the year.

TASS news agency of Russia reported the aforementioned citing the Economic Times (ET).

The new smartphone will cost 999 Indian rupees, or 15 US dollars.

“Our target is to bring a smartphone under Rs [i.e. rupees] 1,000,” Suneet Singh Tuli, DataWind Chief Executive Officer, told ET. “The new smartphone will be a Linux variant, and consumers can get 12 months free Internet browsing.”
