The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry has proposed to name the new element in Mendeleev's periodic table in honor of the Russian-Armenian physicist Yuri Oganessian.
The element with the atomic number 118 will be named after Oganessian, "Ogannesson' (Og)", RBC reports.
Another element with the atomic number 115 will be named "Moscovi" (Mc).
Oganessian co-authored the discovery of heavy elements in Mendeleev's table, such as rutherfordoium, dubnium and bohrium.
