China has developed the world’s second most powerful hybrid magnet for creating strong magnetic fields, reported the Xinhua News Agency, the official press agency of the country.
Its intensity reached 400,000 gauss, or 40 tesla.
The creation of this magnet was a result of eight years of research by Hefei Institute of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The world’s most powerful hybrid magnet is that of the United States. It is located at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MagLab) at Florida State University, and this device can generate a 45-tesla field.
