YEREVAN. - Senior Lieutenant Samvel Arakelyan, who was the indirect commander of Robert Abajyan, Andranik Zohrabyan and Kyaram Sloyan, who fell in the April war, finds it hard to speak about his dead friends.

On April 2, the then platoon commander Samvev Ararkelyan was in the position neighboring the one commanded by captain Armenak Urfanyan. In his words, early in the morning the adversary launched military actions in different directions of the contact line. He wasn’t aware of what was going on in the neighboring position, but some time later he was able to make it to the position together with soldier Gevorg Melyan and take the body of Kyaram Sloyan from there.

“I wasn’t able to return the children alive and healthy to their parents. But I was at least able to take out the body of Kyaram Sloyan,” the Senior Lieutenant said.

He declined to speak about the details of those days, only thanking the parents for breeding up heroics sons. “I was in Urfanyan’s position since April 5, and up to now I continue my service with my soldiers,” Arakelyan noted.

Samvel Arakelyan was awarded Medal for Military Service by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Saturday.
