In 2016, residents of Tokyo found over 3.67 million yen ($32.5 million) on the streets of the city and handed money over to the police, BBC reports. Police was able to track the owners of 2.7 billion yen found on the streets of Japan’s capital city.

Tokyo residents also transfer to police the valuable items found in the streets of the city. Last year, goods and items of over $3.8 million have been found and transferred to the city police.
