The "European Union National Institutes of Culture" (EUNIC) Cluster was opened in Armenia on Wednesday. The launching event was opened by Piotr Antoni Świtalski, EU Ambassador to Armenia, Head of the Delegation, and Ms Arevik Saribeyan, President of EUNIC Armenia, Director of British Council Armenia.

The EUNIC founding members- Goethe Institute, Yerevan Committee of “Dante Alighieri” Associations, Ambassade de France en Arménie, Embassy of the Czech Republic in Yerevan, Armenia, Embassy of Sweden in Yerevan, Embassy of Poland, Yerevan and Embassy of Bulgaria in Yerevan in Armenia also attended the event.

During his speech, Piotr Świtalski noted that the establishments of the EUNIC Cluster in Armenian coincides with the European year of culture Heritage which is another symbolic coincidence.

«It coincides with the time when the EU tries to make culture the very important element of its foreign relations. Cultural identity is foremost national, cultures exist within the communality of language, tradition and history," the Ambassador said, congratulating the embassies, ambassadors and representatives of cultural institutions on signing this document and expressing hope that this will be another platform for bringing European culture and European identity to Armenia.

During the event, the official EUNIC Charter was signed by the eight founding members, which was followed by the signature of Memorandum of Understanding between EUNIC Armenia and the EU Delegation in Armenia.
