Issues related to implementation of police reforms were considered during the meeting with acting Chief of Police of Armenia Arman Sargsyan. This is what Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan told reporters today.
“We discussed all the issues and all the concerns, the police reforms and the events that took place two days ago and received all the answers,” he stated.
Simonyan stressed that political figures need to be distinguished. “Let’s differentiate between political figures and people who are trying to become famous by cursing on the Internet. A person who makes offensive remarks is not a political figure, and so to talk about political repressions and give political evaluations means to disrespect political figures,” he said.
Two days ago, leader of the VETO initiative Narek Malyan, members of the Adekvad initiative Konstantin Ter-Nakalyan and Artur Danielyan and president of the “Civil Consciousness” NGO Narek Samsonyan were apprehended, but released later.
In response to second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan’s claim that there is a possibility of snap elections, Alen Simonyan said there is no need for snap elections in Armenia, and even if there is, it will only be necessary to recover the damage caused to Armenia and solve the situation that we are in because of that damage.
