YEREVAN. – The National Assembly (NA) of Armenia has convened its second special session today. The earlier first session of the quickly began and ended as the issues on the agenda were recalled by their authors.

After that a session of the NA Council was held, where it was decided to convene a special NA session also today, with only one issue on the agenda: amendments to Article 213 of the Constitution. A total of 44 members of the NA majority My Step faction signed under this initiative.

But the bill presented by Vahagn Hovakimyan, a member of the My Step faction, is no longer on the agenda. It had stipulated that amendments to the Constitution could be made without obtaining the respective conclusion of the Constitutional Court.

The only draft included in the current special session proposes that Article 213 of the Constitution be edited. Accordingly, this bill states, in particular, that term of office of the Constitutional Court President and members who were appointed prior the entry into force of Chapter 7 of the Constitution shall cease.

The only bill in this special session shall be discussed only in the first reading, and these debates are scheduled to end within 5 hours.
