Terminating the powers of member of the Supreme Judicial Council Gagik Jhangiryan is not on the Council’s agenda. This is what Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia Ruben Vardazaryan told reporters in parliament today.

“There is only one claim that one of the judges submitted to the Administrative Court against the chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, that is, yours truly, and the particular judge is asking the court to oblige me to terminate Jhangiryan’s powers. We’re currently waiting for the judicial act. I’m familiar with the claim, which has also been submitted to the Supreme Judicial Council, but since I’m the defendant, I won’t answer the question whether the claim is substantiated or not,” Vardazaryan said.

Judge of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction Karine Petrosyan has submitted a claim to the Supreme Judicial Council to terminate the powers of member of the Council Gagik Jhangiaryan, stating that the ground for her application is the fact that academic lawyer member of the Council Gagik Jhangiaryan is 65 years old and, according to the judge, this is proscribed by the Judicial Code.

In regard to this, Jhangiryan had said that the Judicial Code doesn’t set restrictions for academic lawyer members.
