TikTok may launch a group messaging feature this year, Reuters reported, citing sources.

Group messaging is part of ByteDance's plan to develop TikTok into a social interaction app, one source said. This feature has been part of the Chinese version of TikTok, Douyin, since 2019.

The group chat feature will help TikTok keep users on the app longer.

TikTok, which is especially popular with teens and young people, is also expanding its offerings in live streaming and e-commerce, and group chats will allow popular users to connect with fans more easily.
