Health authorities in northern Taiwan's Xinbei city issued a record high fine to an 18-year-old boy for violating quarantine. According to ICRT on Monday, his family will have to pay 1.5 million Taiwanese dollars ($51.5 thousand).

A teenager who tested positive for coronavirus violated the 10-day home quarantine regimen. Over the weekend, he went to play basketball with friends and to buy a gift for his girlfriend, who was also infected.

Initially, the young man tried to deny that he left the house. However, police and doctors cited photos of his adventures posted on social networks as evidence. Screenshots of these records were sent to the authorities by one of the Internet users.

It turned out that the young man deliberately left his phone at home in order to deceive the program for tracking the location of patients with COVID-19. He used another smartphone to take pictures.

The current fine has become a record on the island since the beginning of the pandemic.
