Annual inflation in May in Lithuania, according to preliminary estimates, is a record 18.5%, the indicator was affected by rising prices for food and fuel, follows from the message of the Lithuanian Department of Statistics.

According to preliminary estimates, annual inflation (in May 2022 compared to May 2021) is 18.5%. The biggest impact on annual inflation was made by rising prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, rising payments for housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels, and rising prices for transportation services, the department said in a statement on its website.

Earlier the highest rates of inflation in Lithuania reached in 2008 (12.7%) and 1997 (15.4%).

For comparison, in March, the figure was 15.7%.
