Samsung Display will cease production of liquid crystal displays from June 2022, Gizmochina reported.

The decision to close the business was made due to high competition from Chinese and Taiwanese companies.

South Korea's Samsung has decided to focus on the production of OLED matrices and quantum dot displays (QD) because OLED panels have gained popularity in the manufacture of smartphones. Samsung Display had previously planned to close its LCD division at the end of 2020, but these plans were postponed at the request of Samsung Electronics due to a sudden increase in the price of LCD panels during the COVID-19 pandemic. The main reason for the company to stop producing LCD panels is the decline in profits.

A recent study by Display Supply Chain Consultants showed that the price of LCD displays in 2022 was 36.6% of their January 2014 value.
