Apple is moving parts of its production out of China for the first time in history. According to Nikkei Asia, the tech company is shifting production of various iPad components from Chinese factories to Vietnam.

Apple is basing its decision on supply chain disruptions and unreliable production schedules.

This marks the first time in the company's history that it will move part of its manufacturing infrastructure out of China, where it has been manufacturing its entire product line for decades.

Apple Inc's main supplier, Foxconn Technology Group, has suspended operations at two of its factories in Kunshan in eastern China following new cases of COVID-19, the South China Morning Post reported in April.

This isn't Foxconn's first shutdown — the company is abiding by China's pandemic safety regulations, which are among the strictest in the world.

Shenzhen, a key port city sometimes referred to as China's Silicon Valley, continues to implement an aggressive COVID zero strategy. Shenzhen is home to Foxconn, as well as Tencent and Huawei.
