The Harju County Court of Estonia found 42-year-old citizen of the republic Gerli Mutso guilty of committing two anti-state crimes and one drug-related crime, Interfax reports citing the press service of the court.
According to the court ruling, the allegations against Mutso, including conspiracy against Estonia, participation in and support of intelligence activities against the republic, and drug trafficking in small quantities, were fully supported by evidence.
Mutso, as the court found, knowingly established a connection with the military intelligence of China against Estonia and worked for her. Investigators allege that she participated in and supported intelligence activities against Estonia. Mutso received more than 21,000 euros for her activities, the agency notes.
The court sentenced Mutso to four years and six months in prison for crimes against Estonia, eight years and six months in prison for intelligence activities and its support, and six months in prison for drug offenses.
Lighter sentences were absorbed by heavier ones, so Mutso will have to serve eight years and six months of real imprisonment. Until that moment, women in Estonia had not been convicted of espionage.
