Germany will keep two nuclear power plants in working condition until mid-April of next year, so that they serve as an emergency reserve during the winter, and they will be shut down at the end of the year, as originally planned, writes Der Spiegel.

This decision, to be announced by Economic Affairs and Climate Action Minister Robert Habeck, comes as a result of a stress test to see how Germany's power system will cope during the winter when Russian natural gas supplies will be largely cut off.

The two aforesaid nuclear power plants that will be connected to the energy grid of Germany are located in the country’s south where the load on the energy infrastructure is particularly high. The remaining third nuclear power plant will be shut down as planned.
