The pilots of the German airline Lufthansa are going to hold another strike due to the lack of progress in negotiations to improve working conditions and raise wages.

Despite statements to the contrary, Lufthansa has not yet contacted us and has not presented a new proposal, the trade union association of pilots Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) in Frankfurt am Main reported on the night of Tuesday, September 6, Deutsche Welle reports.

Another round of talks will take place on Tuesday, a VC spokesman said.

Lufthansa could prevent a two-day strike due to start on Wednesday if it makes a serious offer, he said.

Last Friday, September 2, Lufthansa pilots already staged a one-day strike that led to the cancellation of more than 800 flights from Germany, which affected about 130,000 passengers. According to Lufthansa, as a result of the action, the company suffered a loss of 32 million euros.

Trade unions are seeking a 5.5 percent increase in wages for 5,000 captains and first pilots already this year and its automatic linkage to inflation. Lufthansa called these requirements exorbitant, pointing out that if they are met, the company's costs for salaries and staff will increase by more than 40 percent, or 900 million euros, in the next two years. This, as was emphasized, is absolutely unacceptable.
