Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has joined former Los Angeles Dodgers owner and billionaire Frank McCourt's bid to acquire TikTok's U.S. operations, Reuters reported.

McCourt said Ohanian could advance Project Liberty's bid to buy TikTok's U.S. assets and plans to launch a technology-based app that would allow users to control how their data will be used and shared.

Ohanian said he is excited to work on the project and give people more control over their data.

TikTok briefly shut down in the U.S. hours before the ban was scheduled to take effect on Jan. 19, and then began to recover after President-elect Donald Trump said he would restore access to the app.

Trump granted a 75-day extension of the ban and directed Vice President J.D. Vance to oversee the sale.

The prospect of owning one of the world's best-known video-sharing platforms, or at least its U.S. audience, is attracting a growing number of people and organizations from the worlds of finance, technology and entertainment.
