PARIS. – French famous actress of Armenian descent Rosy Varte died on Jan. 14, said her husband Pierre Badel.

She worked with Jean Vilar at Théâtre national populaire – TNP, where Varte and Vilar set a performance the King Ubu in 1958, which later became classics of world theatre. She starred in well-known French soap-opera Maguy from 1985 to 1993.

She was famous for her role in movies “French Cancan” featuring Jean Gabin and “Happy Easter” with Jean-Paul Belmondo.

Her real name was Nevarte Manouelian. She was born in 1923 in Turkey. She had been cooperating with Comédie Française Theater since 1971, rfi reports.
