The Government of Armenia, or the cultural foundations could purchase back the great Armenian writer Hovhannes Tumanyan’s house in downtown Tbilisi, before it is too late. 

The best alternative would be for the house to be purchased as a cultural monument, Tumanyan’s granddaughter Alyona Tumanyan-Kolesnikova told Armenian News-NEWS.am. 

The house’s section, which is currently occupied by a municipal library, belongs to a businessman, whereas the home’s residential section belongs to the writer’s great-grandson.     

At present, the house is put up for sale, and it is planned to be turned into a hostel for foreigners. 

“We petitioned to the Georgian government, to Armenia, for many years,” Hovhannes Tumanyan’s granddaughter noted. 

The press had informed earlier that Tumanyan’s house is to become a hostel for the citizens of Turkey. “They told us that foreigners on a business trip to Georgia will stay here,” Alyona Tumanyan-Kolesnikova had said in this regard.   

And hearing that Armenia’s Culture Ministry itself is awaiting news from Tbilisi, the writer’s granddaughter said: “It would be great if something is achieved. Perhaps the matter will be resolved.”
