Appointment of a married couple as UK Ambassadors to Armenia is not the first precedent, official representative of the UK Foreign Office told ITAR-TASS.  

The official said Foreign Office has no special policy on the issue and each time the appointment is considered from the viewpoint of candidate’s achievements.

Previously, UK appointed a married couple – Tom Carter and his wife Carolyn Davidson - as High Commissioners to Zambia. Their term in office expired this month.

Sometimes the UK foreign office appoints a couple to a post of diplomatic representatives in different states but they live in one country. For instance, Sharon Campbell was appointed UK Ambassador to Costa Rica, while her husband Christopher John Campbell – a non-resident Ambassador to Nicaragua.

Earlier this week newly appointed UK Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan James Aves and Catherine Jane Leach presented their credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan.
