US special envoy to the Middle East Tom Barrack will discuss with the Lebanese leadership a roadmap for resolving the conflict with Israel, and this roadmap envisages the disarmament of the Shiite movement Hezbollah, reports the Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.
The American envoy, who has already arrived in the Lebanese capital Beirut, will hold talks Monday with President Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
The Lebanese government, which on August 5 approved a plan for Hezbollah to hand over its weapons to the Lebanese army by the end of 2025, hopes that in return the US envoy will achieve concessions from Israel, which will begin a phased withdrawal of its forces from five occupied territories in southern Lebanon.
