Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz approved the plan to take control of Gaza City, state broadcaster Kan reports.
The operation has been named "Gideon's Chariots II."
After the operation, Gaza City will change its look and will no longer be the same, Katz said.
There will be announcements soon about additional mobilization of the Israel Defense Forces' reserve forces, the state broadcaster added.
