A flotilla carrying humanitarian aid, which included pro-Palestinian activists such as Greta Thunberg, returned to a Spanish port due to a storm. This was reported by the Global Sumud Flotilla organization on its Instagram page. 

While sailing across the Mediterranean Sea, the flotilla encountered a severe storm with wind speeds reaching 30 knots (about 55 km/h).

“We had to postpone the departure. This decision was made primarily for the safety of the participants and the successful completion of the mission,” the organizers said. The specific date of the next attempt to set sail has not yet been announced.

The flotilla was supposed to depart from Spain for Gaza on August 31. According to the organizers, this is the largest mission of all previous ones: activists, doctors, and journalists from 44 countries set sail for the conflict zone on dozens of ships. The arrival was expected to take seven to eight days.

Greta Thunberg had previously participated in a similar action in June. At that time, the Freedom Flotilla attempted to deliver symbolic humanitarian aid to Gaza, but on the night of June 9, the ship was detained by Israeli naval special forces, after which Thunberg was expelled from Israel.
