The US State Department will “take appropriate action” against foreigners in the United States who “praise, rationalize, or make light” of the death of Charlie Kirk, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said Thursday.

Landau indicated that these actions could include revoking visas.

"In light of yesterday’s horrific assassination of a leading political figure, I want to underscore that foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country. I have been disgusted to see some on social media praising, rationalizing, or making light of the event, and have directed our consular officials to undertake appropriate action. Please feel free to bring such comments by foreigners to my attention so that the State Department can protect the American people." he wrote on social media

Landau said he would instruct consular staff involved in visa issuance to monitor comments on his post.

In response to a separate post about another publication on the shooting, Landau said that if anyone finds out the author's name, “we will revoke her visa. Immediately. Although I doubt she has a visa.”
