The report, compiled in recent months, highlights “significant and persistent delays in bringing the technical equipment of the world’s most visited museum up to standard.” The document is expected to be presented in early November.

In particular, the report emphasizes that in the section of the museum where the “Mona Lisa” and the “Apollo Gallery” (where a theft has previously occurred) are located, one-third of the halls lack surveillance cameras.

The Court of Audit noted that over the past five years, only 138 additional cameras have been installed in the museum. Moreover, only one-third of the halls are equipped with at least one monitoring camera, the report says, also pointing out the absence of initiatives by the museum’s management to strengthen security.

“Despite an annual operating budget of €323 million, the funds allocated are far too limited compared to the estimated needs,” the radio station quotes the report as saying.
