Due to the sharp rise in global oil prices, Pakistan is closing schools for two weeks, affecting around 40 million students in the country of approximately 250 million people.

Pakistan is also shifting half of its government employees to remote work and moving colleges and universities to distance learning.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced a 50% cut in free fuel for government vehicles for the next two months. Government institutions, except for banks, will operate four days a week.
