US President Donald Trump will address the nation on Wednesday evening to provide an “important update” on the Iran war, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt informed on X.

Leavitt, however, did not provide further details about Trump’s expected Address to the Nation, which is scheduled for 9 p.m. (EST).

On Tuesday morning, Trump discussed the war in a phone interview with NBC News, saying that they are doing great and that the conflict was ending. He later told reporters that he expected the US to get out of Iran within two to three weeks, adding that Iran does not need to make a deal with the US to end the war.

However, a day earlier, Trump had announced that the US was in talks with Iran and that progress had been made. He also had threatened to destroy Iranian infrastructure if an agreement was not reached to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has said it is not negotiating with the US.

The war is now in its second month. Thirteen American service members have been killed and about 350 wounded since the US-Israeli strikes began on February 28, according to a US official familiar with the operation.

Last month, NBC News reported that Trump has been repeatedly offered to withdraw from the war, but he has rejected all offers.

Consumers in the US are feeling the financial impact of the conflict. On Tuesday, the average price of a gallon of gasoline exceeded $4, reaching its highest level since 2022, as Iran continues to block the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil passes.

Americans have expressed dissatisfaction with high oil prices, and public opinion polls show voters are unhappy with Trump's handling of the US economy. Trump's last Address to the Nation was in December, when he had defended his economic performance.
