YEREVAN. – A protest was held Monday morning nearby the main building of Armenian capital city Yerevan State University (photos).
A group of youth, who were holding banners, gathered at the area and called upon the students to boycott their classes and join their campaign, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informs.
The youth, however, stressed that they are not obstructing classes because their demonstration is held during recess. There were numerous police officers and red berets in the vicinity.
Earlier, the protesters issued a statement, and noted as follows:
“We, the students [of institutions of higher education] of Armenia demand that the rigged [presidential] election [on February 18] be declared null and void, and a new election be held. With this demand, we declare a boycott of classes for an indefinite time. We call upon all students to consolidate and stand up for the voice of the nation.”
Subsequently, the students headed to the Armenian State University of Economics in the afternoon and, now, the protest is staged in front of Yerevan State Medical University.
